In regards to testing for the different areas some of it can be done thru bloodwork (for example they can check liver function and liver enzymes), x-rays such as ultrasound and CT Scan. For the heart they can also do an EKG and stress test.

With the colon besides some kinds of x-rays like a new form of CT Scan called colonography they can also do other special visual exams, colonoscopy.

It sounds like one of her problems might be arthritis which can be checked for thru bloodwork and x-rays in some cases. The fact that she has blood in her urine tells me she may have a urinary tract or kidney infection. This can be determined by just having the dr ask her to give a urine sample so that they can check under the microscope. They can also send it out to a lab for further analysis.

If there's nothing wrong with her liver panel that means that the test results came back normal. But sometimes tests can be altered for example by food which is why for some tests they require the person not to eat for so many hours.

The dr when she finds one definitely needs to be checking to see if she has some kind of an infection going on. If her primary care dr can't help her then she should see a urologist (drs who treat problems with the bladder and also sometimes kidneys).

The liver panels is to check the function of her liver to make sure it's working right. They can also check other body chemicals such as blood sugar for example to try and tell them if something is wrong.

As for the bones, they can also do x-rays to see if anything is broken. The bone density scan is to check the density of the bone as was done two years ago and showed the result that it did (that can be as a result of the hysterectomy).

Sometimes it takes test after test to try and find the clues to the problem. The reason is because they have to rule a lot of things in and out in order to help put all the pieces of the puzzle in to place.

I hope that your friend can find a good dr soon. She may want to try checking with a Medical School if you have one close by because they often deal with complex cases.

It is normal to get a false negative on a pregnancy test - some people even get false negatives at the doctors office. The test at the doctor is usually as accurate as the home test, but there are other things that could result in the negative result. Since you took the test in the evening your hCG levels were probably lower than when you were tested at the doctors office. If you drank a lot of fluids before testing then it could have diluted your urine. Also, if this was the digital test then it can sometimes be a little less accurate in a way. The tests with the lines will sometimes show really faint because the hormones are so low, but the line is still there so it's a positive. The digital tests have to be more certain of the positive before saying "pregnant" or "not pregnant", so it may require a higher level of hormones. Maybe you took it wrong? (unlikely, but still possible) Since the doctor tested your urine and it came back positive then it means you are pregnant even though you got the negative test after. False positives are impossible (unless you read the test after 10 minutes and then there could be an evaporation line which will look like a positive, but I can promise you that the doctor read it before that). In order to get a positive you have to have hCG in your system, which only shows up if you are pregnant. Congratulations.
