The oil Iraq is selling on the world market is being used to rebuild the Country. We didn't blow the wells up and we are not stealing it. And if all we wanted was the oil we could have kept Kurwait in 91 with a lot less hassle.

For one thing, the Iraqis are not eager to just hand over their national wealth in "gratitude" for the "big favor" we've done them. Oddly enough.

For another, the infrastructure's broke down and blown to pieces, after years of containment and war.

Also, it's a little problematic to pump oil when the countryside is crawling with people trying blow up you and your equipment.

Finally, the US oil companies would not be at all thrilled by the prospect of lowered oil prices. US oil costs a lot to produce, they need high prices to remain profitable.

And yes they do have something to say about it.

We dont need the Iraq's oil. They should use the money to rebuild their country. Maybe even pay for religious counsel to address their hatred of the various sects in islam.

That would be a better use than having us take the oil profits. It even might stop the civil war violence.

The big oil companies do not want too much Iraqi oil coming onto the market anytime soon. That would depress oil prices worldwide and decrease their profits.

well its obvious....because bush took it all and is privately selling it to make money.

no but seriously.
US will not get the oil itself but trust me our military is getting big money from iraq . all the revenue they make goes thru our military. the politicians there can't even take a vacation without asking cheney for permission. so in long run US will make big money from iraq. the more stable they get the more money we get.
