You are ment to expand the brackets.... nd i did but i think the - in between them is making me get it rong what am i doing thats wrong? (the random numbers in the braket mean its squared, cubed ...etc)

* (x+2)²- (x-3)²
=(x+2)(x+2)-(x-3)(x-3)
=x²+2x+2x+4-x²-3x-3x+9
= -2x+13

You're problem came when distributing the minus sign after line 2:

* (x+2)²- (x-3)²
=(x+2)(x+2)-(x-3)(x-3)
=x²+2x+2x+4-(x²-3x-3x+9)
=x²+2x+2x+4-x²+3x+3x-9
=x²+4x+4-x²+6x-9
=10x-5

You have gone wrong in the third step.

Step 2: (x+2) (x+2) - ((x-3) (x-3) ... Right

It should be equal to,

= (x^2+2x+2x +4) - (x^2 -3x -3x+9)

= (x^2 +2x +2x+4) - x^2 +3x+3x-9 ( you've made mistakes in the sign of3x, 3x, & 9.

= 10x -5

Another easier method:

We can do this by using the formula a^2 - b^2 = (a+b) (a-b)

= ( x+2+x-3) (x+2 - x+3)

= (2x-1) *(5)

= 10x - 5.

Your equation went wrong in the sense that you are subtracting an entire squared quantity. It should apear more like this.

(x^2 + 4x + 4) - (x^2 - 6x +9)

x^2 + 4x +4 - x^2 + 6x - 9

Giving:

10x - 5

you have forgotten the minus sign in between
here is the correct version:
=(x+2)(x+2)-(x-3)(x-3)
=(x²+2x+2x+4)-(x²-3x-3x+9)
= x²+2x+2x+4- x²+3x+3x-9 ..that minus sign change the signs in the parenthesis
=10x-5
