Both of my mom's parents had als and my mom died of it also. I just found out my uncle is dying of it. If you are a carrier of this type of ALS you will eventually die from it. I'm only 22, do you think I should get tested (for genetic reasons ie: children, choice of spouse)?

You could go on as you are and wait until you are really ready to have the test. Perhaps you're not ready to do this, think about it for awhile. If it were me that's probably what I would do. I imagine there are people who wouldn't want to know at all so I can understand that. Of course if you are thinking of getting married soon you would have to find out before marrage, just to be fair to your husband.

yes, get tested, you will be able to handle the outcome. Have a friend with you if you are nervous. It is best to expect the worse and then go from there. I know you are scared and I wish I had some magic words to take the fear away, but you have to know. If you knew then you could decide if you want children, it could alter your life, so find out. Good Luck.

What could it hurt to get tested? I mean, if you are concerned about it, maybe you should find out. Hopefully you will not have it, but if you do and know about it, it could help you make some of those other choices in your life.

Yep, I would go find out, just so I wouldn't wonder forever about it. Good luck! I will keep my fingers crossed that you don't have it (and pray too, cuz crossed fingers make it really hard to type - lol)

while you're in the U. S., being your age, i might wait. in case you have a analysis this would exclude you from many insurances except you get right into a set plan without a pre-present project clause. you in addition to mght does not be eligible for existence assurance. I did study the day gone by, i've got self assurance in the recent England magazine of drugs, that they suspect to have remoted the gene for this ailment. Gene therapy is in that's infancy, yet having a son your age and an inheritable ailment, myself. it is my opinion. good good fortune to you

Getting tested couldn't hurt. I'm no doctor, but I try to avoid aluminum in the diet. Americans have too much of it in their bodies.
