what about 18^(1/4)?

x^(y/z) = the z-root of (x^y)

so 16^(1/2) = the 2-root of 16^1 = square root of 2^4 = 2^2 = 4

18^(1/4) = the 4-root of 18^1 = the 4-root of 2*9 = the 4-root of 2*(3^2) , which cannot be further broken down so 18^(1/4) is in simplified form

16^(1/2) is the square root of 16 which is 4
18^(1/4) you would square root it twice. which comes out to be decimal approx 2.06

Use a table of common logarithms
or an actual slide rule .
