They killed off the best damn character in the show. Johnston Greene was the soul and leader of the town, and the family.
It can't be a ruse, because the brothers mourned his death alone in the room with their father's body.

Although I also liked Johnston Green A LOT, his death had to happen for the overall story to progress. Jake was always meant to be the lead character and he needed to be able to step up and lead. That was never going to happen with his dad around. The way the season ends allows Jake to begin next season as the guy the town looks to to save them. It's a "passing of the torch" thing. Johnston fought his war (Vietnam as a Ranger). Now it's Jake's turn. Hopefully the show gets picked back up next season. If not, at least make a mini-series to wrap up the storyline for all of us fans.

The man who played Johnston has a heart condition and can't do a show for too long due to health problems. But I think it will give Jake just the motivation to take charge and get Jericho back in order like his father would have done if that other hadn't of been choosen the new mayor.

yes i was saddened by the killing. but i really think the writers are using it to build Jake up. He did take charge and did say "nuts" to the surrender proposal. The question you should ask, is what is gonna happen now? The HS guy sent the federal troops in, and they showed up at the last second. gonna be interesting next year.

I am FURIOUS that they killed him off. I seriously considered shutting off the T.V. at that point. I almost want to see Jericho burn now after what happened. Almost.
It's still one of my favorite shows though, and fall won't come soon enough.

I cried when he died, I LOVED that character. he had some balls thats for sure!
I was sooooo psyched when Jake said "NUTS" to the New Bern leader.

I WAS SOOOO PISSED. SORRY FOR THE LANGUAGE. BUT OMG THEY COULDN'T KILL OF ANYONE ELSE? AND THE WAY THE SEASON FINALE ENDED? THEY COULD HAVE MADE IT BETTER. NOW WE HAVE TO WAIT TILL THE FALL TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS
