Get a guitar and use it to play metal music like Slayer & Metallica. You're not that bright tonight are you? LOL! I'm not meaning to be a smartass but what do you expect my answer to be. I can only answer with the truth. If you want to start playing metal guitar, then you start by playing metal guitar. Duh! Would a better answer be, you get a piano and pretend it's a guitar? Or how about, get a guitar and play country music but 'pretend' it's metal!? No, the obvious answer is just plain common sense. Read my first sentence again, please. :-) There are pictures of guitars on the net in case you want to know what one looks like before jumping into a purchase uneducated ;-) good luck

Practice, Practice, Practice.

The first answer is correct though. First you need to get a guitar if you don't have one already. Make sure it's the correct guitar though. Different guitars have different sounds. Go to you local guitar dealer and talk to them and find out what's the best guitar for you. One guitar may work for one person but not another. You may want to play the guitar that your favorite band plays but that may not be the best one for you.

After you have the proper equipment then decide if you are going to learn on your own or take lessons. Some people can learn very easily by teaching themselves. I am not one of them and I found that out the hard way. However you decide to learn the most important piece of advice I can give you is PRACTICE. That's another area that gives me trouble. I have a difficult work schedule that's didn't allow me to practice on a regular schedule.

Also, be patient. You may pick it up quickly or you may not. If you don't, then don't be discouraged. Keep with it. I'm sure some of the best guitar players didn't become great overnight.

Good luck.
