He's an ok attorney as far as I can tell, and has done some appeal work as well, but he's not on Wallstreet or with a high-powered firm...AND I DEFINETLY HAVE A GOOD CASE btw :)

How can I tell if this retainer agreement is ligitmate without spending additional money on another attorney to review it?

Is the a link to this kind of information anyone can recommend?

Lawyers are thieves.Remember the story of 2 farmers in dispute about the ownership of a cow?One farmer was pulling the cow by the horns, the other was pulling it by the tail, the lawyer milking it.

If the "attorney fee" is an hourly fee, this seems rather high.

Generally, 30-40% is totally acceptable as a contingency fee. This number tends to come down if you're also paying an hourly rate. $520/hour seems pretty high, however, especially in conjunction with a contingency fee.

Try to negotiate it down. He will negotiate if you really have a good case.

It is not unreasonable as it sounds like he feels it will have to go to trial in order for the case to be proved in a Court of Law.

Typical fees are 33% + expenses if a case is taken on a contigency fee basis if it is settled without having to go to trial, at 40% + expenses if settled by going to Trial.

There's nothing not legitimate about an attorney asking for a good deal of money, especially if he's good.

I dobut another attorney would review it. It's capitalism working at it's finest. He sets his rates at what he believes he's worth. If you believe he's worth it then accept the offer, if not make a counter-offer that he might accept. If he doesn't accept it at the rate you offer then you'll have to chose if you feel it's worth paying what he asks.
