Old age is not a cause of death. Generally people say that to indicate some other cause which is associated with old age. Sudden natural death is generally due to heart failure, stroke etc. Other aged related causes include organ failure like kidneys, liver, pancreas etc.
Most people hope that their loved ones live forever, or, if not, that they die peacefully in their sleep. If this happens, it is generally the heart stopping. In this instance, death is peaceful. The age is variable, in western society, if a person has had a reasonably healthy life (eg non-smoker, not obese) then from about 70 onwards. Less if it has been an unhealthy life. But it varies a lot.

Old people die from a lot of things. . . disease . . . accidents . . . but I guess what you are trying to ask if people really do die just because they ARE old. hmmm. . . I guess due to free radicals that may have accumulated in the body from much of old age. I would pretty much guess that if people would die from old age, here are the organs that would cease to function(in order). First, the organs of the digestive system would cease to function. The stomach will no longer churn, and the intestines would stop doing wave like peristaltic motion. THe next that would give away I guess would be the lungs, the liver, the kidneys, the heart then the brain. hehehehe! it's plain guessing i guess. hah! but pretty much when the vital organs go, so will the others.

After age 25, or anywhere in the late twenties, your cells don't reproduce as often anymore. As you get older the rate at which your cells reproduce falls behind the rate at which your cells die. It's been theorized, and is probably true, that oxidants, help speed up the aging process in several ways. However, with the current average state of health (obesity, heart disease, smoking) most people will probably die of body parts failing or "self-inflicted" causes.

Every day hundreds of thousands of cells of our body dies and are replaced by regeneration of cells. The cells have capacity to multiply. However it is mystery that after certain number of multiplication, they stop multiplying or regenerate. When this occurs, we call that the person is getting old. Once the regeneration stops, the cells which die are lost permanently. Slowly the body starts losing cells and hence organs. The body becomes weak and has low resistance against diseases. Often people die of heart attack as this organ does not get any time to rest. Further, in old age, the sensation of pain also diminishes (often due to diabetes) hence, they do not feel much discomfort and often die during their sleep.

You don't have to have a disease to die of old age. you just get old and you organs just slow down with you. Everything just stops. A lot or older people go to sleep and never wake up. There is no pain or suffering if you die of old age. It can happen suddenly or over a period of time. They just keep getting tireder until the quit breathing.
