Restaurant work: I don't get any benefits; the hours are horrible; I want to switch fields; I'm extremely unhappy with the work environmnet; and I want to go back to school.

I have 2 months left on my apartment lease with no other debts, and my total living expenses are $250 a month.
So I basically have a glorified part-time job, in which I'm burned out, and have nothing else to worry about.

The only problem is, I want to study Geology in Hawai'i. Should I pack up, go out on a limb for a dream... or stay, go to a mediocre school, find a new job and remain forever uninspired?

Go for it!!! My son sold and gave away everything he had at 27 years of age within a week to move interstate with no part time work or place to stay to start a course at a college. He is loving it. Stayed at backpackers until found share accom. and part time work. His health has improved because he is now happy after long hours as a chef and years being disatisfied with the industry he was in. I wish I had done the same with my life....... but too was too scared to let go. What's the worse that can happen. You can wake up 40 years later and think damn I should have..... Good luck!

I think that if you really want to go back to school you should. If you are bored with your current job start looking for another job. First of all evaluate what skills you have and what is it you want to do. What career field do you want to pursue. If you really want to be a Geologist find out how to go about this by talking to someone in admission in a local college. Geology is a scientific field which is going to require you to take a lot of math and other very hard subjects so get ready. I am a college student right now. College is harder than working, I have done both. I am not trying to discourage you by no means if you are bored with your job definitely go back to school, all I am saying is try to get into a field that is right for you do not waste your time and money.

Quit your current job unless you're in Hawaii.. If you're not in Hawaii, go there and get a part time job there while studying. Its horrible to remain uninspired.. Follow your dreams!

I think you already know the answer.
You're young--live life.
Apply for the school--give your resignation--pack up and have the time of your life.
