False - it was only retired once, for Roberto Clemente. Fellow Hall of Famer Arky Vaughan was the only other player to wear #21 for the Pirates for more than a couple years (he did so in the 1930s), but it was never retired in his honor.

That is false. The number 21 was retired in 1973 after Roberto Clemente was killed in a plane crash while delivering humanitarian aid to victims of an earthquake in Nicaragua.

I don't know if number 21 was retired, but I just got home from watching the Cubs beat the Pirates 1-0. :-) Not an exiciting game, but a win is always a good thing. When did pop and hotdogs get sooooo expensive at a ballgame???

Bad Rumor, the No. 21 was only retired after worn by the following guy, Roberto Clemente:

Before he had the number, someone else did but it was only retired once.
