This is not an advocatcy for legalization. It's a serious inquiry. How can natural plant be illegal? If people smoked christmas trees and got high, would christmas trees then be illegal? All other drugs on the planet, legal and illegal are altered in some way to achieve a desired effect. Even the poppy is manipulated by man. That constitutes the legal forum. But a majiruana plant grows all by itself. With or without our help, unaltered, natural. Just like a tulip or strawberries, or mushrooms?. I simply do not get it.

Marijuana had three basic problems in the 1930's.
1) It was smoked by mexican immigrants who were not so welcome in the great depression. (Making it illegal gives you an excuse to arrest and deport them)
2) The end of prohibition would lesve many law officers jobless, (They keep their jobs if they can bust weed)
3) It (hemp) was seen as a threat to cotton and paper.

In the late sixties it was associated with hippies and anti war protesters. There has always been a religious propaganda campaign aginst it. Rather comical if understood.
