I don't think so. I think Jacob has been on the island for generations and that he is the leader of the Others. Since we were first introduced to Ben there were hints that he wasn't the top leader of the others. Jacob is. I think Lost is getting into some mystical area with this whole storyline.

Lol... I'm grasping at straws too. My guess is that Jacob is one of the "voices" that people have heard in the jungle since the beginning of the show ... if that's that case, then there may be more then one "Jacob"- maybe he's just the only one that Ben can see. It's weird that Locke heard him too (or did Ben do some fake voice?) ... Ben seemed almost jealous that Locke had heard him. Why would "Jacob" need help? Wait, wait, I got it ... Locke is an angel and doesn't know it, and the island is a go-between heaven & hell, and Locke has to help these invisable people to cross over. The other people on the island are just there to screw us up. Woo, straws! :)

No, no, no! Jacob was the guy Ben met in the jungle when he was looking for his dead mother. Whether he's still alive or not is still up for question. He could be a poltergeist or other spirit, or perhaps the Island's electromagnetic field has trapped him on a different plane and that's why he's asking for help. Trust me, I have enough imagination to fill in all the blanks completely wrong at least 50 times over.
Tatsinda's comment about the voices made me think there's more to my "trapped in the EMF" theory than I really thought (trust me - I can come up with these things ad nauseum). But that would make sense, people hearing the voices of people who are trapped on a different plane, but close enough to this one to be aware of each other.

Hiphop, little Ben met Richard Alpert outside the perimeter, NOT Jacob. Take off the beard and cut the hair, its HIM!
I think Jacob is either a ghost or someone stuck on another plane of existence.
I loved the episode, freaky!

Haha. I think we all are after tonight. Don't feel bad. All everyone else has are theories.
They need to resolve a few questions before they continue leading us deeper into the dark. I mean, is juliet good or bad? Does Locke die? Who is Jacob? Is Ben really just crazy?
Help! I am so lost (no pun intended).

That scene kind of reminded me of Psycho. The way Norman Bates and his dead mother can have conversations that would include different voices. Of course that wouldn't explain who the other person physically in the room was. I think Locke was right though. I think Ben was full of it. Nothing happened until Locke turned on the flashlight, Ben could have had the room rigged. He's crazy. RIPJohn Locke????
