what if you were in the vehicle that caused the accident?

do you call the police or do you ignore it an hope no one finds out that you knew all along

Every citizen is obliged to call the law enforcement agencies to report any accident. If the incident is discovered or noticed by the police officers, the person who did not report will be a suspect.

The above poster is correct and you could be cited for, at minimum, Obstruction of Justice, and even possibly Accessory After the Fact if the police can prove you were in the vehicle.

Call the police. If they find you, you are an accessory to hit and run.
