My son's doctor told me my son is "intolerant" to dairy and told me to use "SOY' formula. My son is also breastfed, but when I am at work he is given half formula and half breastmilk.

Between just those two brands I'd choose Enfamil, but we use the Parent's Choice (Wal-Mart brand) Soy formula with DHA and ARA and it works well for us. It's about half the price, but we can't tell any difference as far as our baby is concerned between it and the Enfamil Prosobee that our doctor gave us to sample (and nutritionally its the same because its regulated by the FDA).

My son was also intolerant to the regular formula. Intolerant, not allergic. So many people can't get that there's a difference.

Anyway, we've used the Enfamil Prosobee Lipil, and also the comprable one in Similac brand (I think it was called Isomil), and my son was fine on both of them. Only differences (besides what's it's made from) is the smell, and how quickly it gets yucky if left in the bottle. The soy formula smells terrible, like bad milk, all the time, even when it's completely fresh. And it gets even yuckier if left too long in the bottle. We accidentally left one in the diaper bag for a few nights (when we didn't go anywhere for a few days in a row) and it was disgusting. Made me gag when I took the lid off.

Also, just for future use, my son can't have the whole milk that toddlers are supposed to drink. It's just too heavy, even though he's grown out of much of the intolerance he had when he was tiny. We use 2% instead.

My baby does great on Good Start Supreme - the milk based. We had started her on Similac Isomil (soy) and she got extremely constipated. Not sure if it was the soy or just the Similac brand that did it. Once we switched her to the Good Start she has been doing great with normal bowel movements. I've never tried the soy from Good Start, but it's probably just as great as the milk based. We thought she had a dairy intolerance as well, but she's doing awesome on the milk-based by Nestle.

it all depends on your baby my son was not able to tolerate milk based formulas until he was over 6mo old so he was on a soy than after that went to good start he had a really easy time digesting it but again it all depends on your baby and what he can tolerate it may take a couple of tries till you find a good one just watch out for projectile puking and diareah lots of gas those are all signs of intollerance

I dont' know about Soy, but I do know that Nestle Good Start has formulas for easy digestion, which with my daughter, helped with spit up and gas. I'd also watch what you are eating-esp. with any dairy.

I have had three of my children who couldn't tolerate regular formula, and I had to put them on a soy-based formula. I used enfamil PROSOBEE LIPIL and it is well tolerated by most infants, and it is about the same price as regular formula too. It is recommended by most pediatricians.

Soy is a good alternative for a baby who is lactose intolerant. The doctor knows what he's talking about. Take his advice.

I was given Good Start by WIC and if he can't have dairy make sure YOU do not eat any dairy either because it can be in the breastmilk too.
