Hmm, I can only think of three options for working in Houston's make-up industry. The first one would be to work at MAC store or in the cosmetic department of a department store. Another option would be to work at a decent hair salon that offers its clients make-up services for weddings, proms, etc. The third option would be to do the make-up for local TV shows (news, morning talk shows).

If you really used to be a model, you'd have met makeup artists and you would have had plenty of opportunity to ask them about getting into the trade.

Do you mean selling make-up in department at Lord & Taylor or Neiman-Marcus? If so, apply to the stores that interest you.

Get to know the drag queens in town. They will pay cash and if you know what you are doing they will be willing to pay top dollar.
