i'm not looking for any advice on how to be popular, i'm just wondering people's opinon on what makes people popular in high school or middle school.

Harsh, but true...MONEY! If you've got money and can afford to dress with the best name brands there are...you're cool! If you have money and live in a nice home...you're cool! If you've got money to spend and can do what you want with it when you want...you're cool! Money makes the world go round! There are those select few people who don't have much besides looks and sports and they're accepted into the cool crowd...Go figure! Anywho...hope that answers it for ya! That's just my opinion though.

In a single word? Charisma.
In more words? People aren't popular for no reason- they have to have some sort of attractive quality that draws people to them, whether it be their winning personality, killer smile, or any number of other factors. If you look closely, a lot of the people that are considered "hot" in their teenage years are confident with themselves, which is hard to come by at that age. Confidence is the sexiest thing there is. Also, a certain attention to hygiene and fashion seems to be important as well, but eccentricities can draw people to you and get you lots of positive attention as well. After all, who wants to hang out with a bunch of boring drones all the day?
A lot of the people who talk down on popular people are jealous, but they need to realize that anger and jealousy aren't attractive qualities, and most people won't treat others badly without being given some reason to do so. Of course, in a high school situation, the 'reasons to do so' are often very trivial and fluid.

Popularity is a natural part of life in both middle and high schools. Its normal to become curious why, honestly, hasn't everyone wondered, at least once, how some people are so popular?
Well, in my opinion, there are two types of popular. The Prep and the...umm...Not-so-Prep. Usually, popular people are the 'prep' which I define as someone who is popular becuase they start drama, go out with a lot of people, are mean to people who are actually smarter than them, and think its cool to make low grades and dont care much about academics.
A Not-so-prep does know a lot of people, but thats usually because of all the school work they participate in, and how nice they are. Not to brag, or anything, but I have one of the best orchestra's in the nation at my school, so naturally, the orchestra crowd is popular...but we don't do any of that other stuff. We're all nerds...but everyone knows us, loves us, and apprieciates the fact that we aren't the snotty popular ones...so basically, people can become popular by...
causing drama, and that sorta thing
or
helping out with the school, representing your school, and just being yourself.=)

in our school...u must be or have
u must be sociable and friendly
have the trendiest clothes
no originality aka follow all the TRENDS
a bf/gf is optional
pretty or hot
a skateboard
be gossipped about often
be in a clique or mini clique
and lastly KISSER-UPPER to teachers
nice up front, evil biatch behind
being rich is nice :)
haveing designer clothes are nice too
Lets not Forget CONFIDENCE!!! it takes guts to ask that hot guy over there....

Most of them are brown nosers, in other words they kiss up to others to gain the popularity! I know a lot of people who do that!
