How much more/less will the '08 elections cost compared to '04?

I am wondering how much the '08 presidential candidates are estimated to spend on their campaigns. Individual costs? Average costs? Total costs (all parties).

And how do these figures compared to '04 expenditures?

There are predictions that this will be the 1st billion dollar election in history.

Can't really answer this one until its over. But, I will say that the primaries will be more expensive than ever mainly because many of the states have changed when they vote. Also, because there are so many running for each party.
