was because of the fact that at age 18 you were old enough to be drafted, but not old enough to vote?

26th admendment-changed the voting age from 21 to 18.

agreed. I had a teacher who fought in the Vietnam war and he gave me a good outlook and helped me form this: if at the age of 18 you are old enough to be drafted and sacrifice your life for the good of this country then you should also be able to vote for who represents your country to the world. And the person that will be your "Commander in Chief"

Yeah, you got it. Basically, people felt that if they were going to have to register for a draft and fight and very possibly die, they should have some say in it. I also think that's a damned good reason to lower the drinking age, but that's another subject.

Yes because if you were drafted without the right to vote it was essentially slavery.

People who were being sent off to fight for things America wanted had no say in what America wanted... that's just not right. Thus, I believe your evaluation of this situation is correct.

There were a lot of college-aged hippies who pushed this because they smoked a lot of pot. What is sad is that hardly any of them even bothered to register when they got their first chance to vote.
