My boyfriend gets these dark brown spots on the back of his thigh that look like big black heads and are usually slightly inflammed. When you squeeze them out, it comes out like a black head, except there is a lot more substance and it's thick. It seems to be tinted green. There is also a curly hair that comes out with it (not attached to the skin anymore). Are these called ingrown hairs? How to prevent them? One turned into a painful bump full of full smelling green pus...

Tell him to exfoliate.

Right now, you can treat them with an antibiotic cream and leave them alone - don't pick! Then you have a few options for the next time to avoid ingrowns: Don't do anything to your hair. Trim to a short length but don't shave completely. Get waxed/sugared once your hair is long enough. Shave using conditioner or unscented deodorant, and shave WITH the grain of the hair. As far as I know, it's not recommended to use chemical hair removers on your pubic hair, but I could be wrong.

Try using a shower gel containing Salicylic Acid, a proven acne-fighting ingredient. Like Neutrogena® Body Clear® Body Wash
He might also try to use a scrub or loofa to exfoliate the area.

hope this helps

Whoa, tell him to get to the doctor. That sounds pretty serious, but yes I think that could very well be ingrown hairs.
