As for the best rock band of all time, i would have to put a bid in for Metallica. Metallica was a band with out a label for the first 2 ablums. They made it with a growning number of fans because they played hard, and they were kick ***. Metallica made it huge because they allowed people to bootleg the music. People would then trade the songs with others to make a collection. This is one of the things that put Metallica above other bands. The ability to allow fans to record concerts. How many bands would let you do that. Some of the great songs by Metallica have been, One, Seek and Destroy, "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" Among others. They don't have as many top 40 hits as some of your other rock bands that will/have been mentioned. This isn't because of a lack of talent, this is a lack of air play to the stlye of music that they helped to define.
The Beatles are one of the greatest bands of all time, but they were made by the media before they ever performed. We all know that in the time that the Beatles became gods for the Invasion, that they were supported by all the media to do just that. This is in no way ment to put anything bad on the Beatles. It is just a fact that sometimes when your handed a silver spoon, you actually live up to it. The Beatles have one of the greatest staples of songs in music. Yet it doesn't make them the best band.

AFI without a doubt. I love their deep and meaninful lyrics, the dedicated fanbase, the hardwork and dedication the band puts into their music. If you ever saw AFI perform live you'd be a fan instantaneously. They've been around over a decade and a half and has paid their dues to come out on top. I love everything they stand for.

They write amazing songs, with meaningful lyrics. (they actually write all their own songs and lyrics, which is something in itself). Davey, Jade, Adam and Hunter are all awesome guys. They are extremely sweet, and they actually care about their fans, even after going mainstream. And they have one of the largest and most dedicated fanbases ever.
