People say that being a stay at home mom can be one of the hardest jobs, and they deserve more credit. But no one really talks about the moms who have to work a 40 week on top of taking care of the kids, doing all the cooking, cleaning, etc. I think that would be the hardest job ever. What do you think?

I don't ever plan to be a mom. But my mom was a stay at home mom of 5 kids, and she still had time to go to the gym, go tanning, go to lunch with friend etc. But my friend's mom had to work 40 hours or more a week, on top of caring for the kids, and all house work. She never had time to herself.

Being a working mother isn't always a choice. Sometimes they have to work in order to put food on the table and pay the bills. At least this was the case for my friend's mom, and a lot of other working mother's I know.

I know that being a stay at home mom is hard work, that is why I choose not to have kids, I just don't think I have it in me. I just think that being a mom, and working, and being expected to take care of all the house work would be overwhelming. Sorry for the long post.

the list goes on and on....

apparently Veruca doesn't approve of working moms, becuz we CHOOSE to work...ya right, if i don't work, who's gonna pay the billz?? my dead husband???...ya right.... Nobody else RAISES my son, he goes to school and is raised by his MAMA.

I feel it depends what the "stay at home mom" does. The ones that have housekeepers and gardners certainly have it easier than the ones who do it all themselves. Where I live, there are a lot of tennis moms who stay in shape, tan, shop and WATCH OUT THE WINDOW AS I CUT MY GRASS AND WORK MY **** OFF AFTER WORKING A GOOD 40-HOUR + WEEK. Grrrrrrrrr.
And I think it may be a little easier to do a lot when you are in your twenties and thirties. By the forties you wonder, "How many thousands of times have I vacuumed this carpet?" :-)

I believe it's a choice, and with that choice is a trade-off. The mom who stays home with the kids has made a career out of raising her children. The mother who chooses to work 40 hours a week would rather someone ELSE raise her children, while her career is outside the home. I'm sure the kids of the working woman have more material things, but the kids of the SAHM have something even better: Their mother.

I'm a working mom, not by choice but necessity. It's a tough job. Although I think stay at home moms have it rough too, limited adult interaction, unless you're heavily involved with other parents, play dates, PTA etc. I think people who judge others by these choices are ignorant fools. My husbands family was raised by a stay at home mom, the woman was out of her mind...and my in-laws are all pretty friggin nutty too...this is not always the best choice...some people can't handle it. I was raised by 2 working parents, I turned out just fine. I love my parents, i love my family, i love my life.....

if your mom had time to do that , then somewhere she had some help, either thru family or babysitters. I am home 24/7 with my 3 kids. the only break I get is a 30 minute trip to the grocery store every couple of days. and one of those trips is bound to have at least 1 or 2 of them with me. if you go to work at least you have some adult conversation sometime and its like getting away in a way. not that it would be easy, but staying home all the time is extremely hard.

I think being a stay at home Mom is a job in itself. My mother had seven kids, and she was always tired, and worn out. Now that we are grown, we can give back to her for raising us the way that she did. I have sooo much respect for them. I know that I could never do it. Its very courageous, and a tremendous job to do.

I am a stay at home mom of 3... my day begins at 6am and ends around midnight... I cook, clean, do laundry..
Before I had the 2nd and third child I worked up to 12 hours a day and came home to cook and clean and laundry...
When I worked I had more time to do the things that I have to do.. and now that I am home it is hard and most days I can't get everything done..
I would have to say that it is a toss up..

They call us supermoms actually. It is tough. I worked full time and part time, ran 2 cub scout dens, volunteered at the school, went to PTA, field trips, teacher's conferences, intramural sports, and cleaning and laundry, cooking and grocery and clothes shopping. Not to mention paying the bills and coordinating repair work.

Those days are behind me now, and I genuinely have no clue how I pulled it all together.

well... in your context, i guess that will be the hardest job ever. but in my opinion, job is supposed to let you earn money or somthing in return. but responsibility is something you need to do whether it will give you something in return. so, i guess it is pretty much up to the mum to decide how she is looking at the situation.

I guess mother's day should be a day dedicated to appreciate those kind of moms.
