You really need to take the turtle back to where you were fishing. That is it's home. Besides the fact that you basically "turtle-napped" it, you don't even know what kind it is. You can't take care of it if you don't know what kind it is or can't give us descriptions or pictures to tell you. It's also illegal in most states to take native turtles from their homes as most native turtles are pretty much endangered. It's also bad for the ecosystem and the whole circle of life thing. And ultimately, it's bad for the turtle. It really stresses all turtles out to be moved, especially taken from their native homes. Wild turtles never do well in captivity and die extremely premature. Most turtles live 20+ years. A captured wild lives less than 3 years in captitiy, if this gives you any idea. Another thing is, you don't even know how to take care of it. Turtles of any kind are demanding animals and are fairly high-meintance. Really, do the world a favor and take it back. If you want a pet turtle, do research about them and learn how to provide the proper habitat for them. Once you've done this, set up their homes and then a couple days later bring one home for a reliable pet store or breeder.

Please let it go. Baby wild-caught turtles do not make good pets.

I'm going to assume this is a typical American pond turtle- Painted turtle, snapper, etc. If you choose to keep it, it needs:
- at least a 20 gallon tank, about 1/2 filled
- a heater to keep the water temps 75-80F
- a BIG filter, rated at least 3 ties the tank size
- UVB lighting
- a good basking site, heated from overhead ot about 90F
- good pelleted food and a steady supply of frozen krill and bloodworms as a baby

Understand- there is a LOT of misinformation out there on caring for turtles. To keep a turtle healthy takes a LOT of work, a lot of money, and a lot of research.

Release it- it is better for everyone!

Don't ''take care of it''. It's a wild turtle, why would you even CONSIDER forcing it to go from living in a lake/pond, to a VERY small bowl. That would be like going from living in a house, to staying in a cardboard box. Not very pleasing, and it won't lead to a happy animal.

Please take this turtle back where you found him, and release him. If you want a pet turtle, go purchase one that's been captive bred. I'm pretty sure it's illegal to just scoop up wildlife and force it into captivity for your own entertainment, anyways.

Yeah, as much as you may like it I would have to say return it as well. Our wild turtle counts are very low and I don't know anyone who would want them to be lower. Basically, if you want a turtle check out buying a book then adopting one. Don't snatch a little baby from it's home.

Take it back it will die if you don't. If you really want a turtle that will live for 20 years and are willing to have a tank the size of a kiddie pool then adopt one or buy one.

You should have left it in the water.
I hope you washed your hands after catching the turtle.
Depending on what species the turtle is you will feed it differently. Return it ASAP!!!

Excuse me, but why did you catch it in the first place? This little animal was in its habitat so why did you?
I suggest that you either bring it back to the place where you found it or go to the vet and ask for all the right info about how to take real good care of it
