It's a volunteer army. The only rich people serving are looking to enter politics....they tend to take officer's training through school before enlisting. I don't have a problem with this. What I DO have a problem with is this Robin Hood attitude most Dems seem to have with my tax dollars.
(You've listened to enough "B.Y.O.B", by System of a Down....time to change the CD in your player!)

We have a volunteer military. Nobody goes who didn't sign up to serve.
The military does represent an opportunity for those who can't, say, afford college, because thier family is poor. It also represents opportunities for those whose families are rich: officers tend to be drawn from the more affluent classes, and anyone with political ambitions (again, often folks who are rich) knows that a military background is a plus.

What an ignorant statement. I am not poor and my son is in his second deployment in Iraq.Money has nothing to do with our Boys joining the Military. My son also has a Masters degree. And of course you want more freebies. Just like a Democrat.

Ok, Rosie, one sided statements that aren't true just don't fly around here, you should know that......even if it were true, what are you gunna do? Enact the draft? You'd be burned at the stake by the left wingers and some of the right wingers for even suggesting it

Sorry your way misinformed
those that serve are better than average educated
come from better than average income families
Poor stay that way because that all they know and are waiting for the nanny state to care for them
they don't join, they don't do anything
so try again to disrespect the military this time it didn't work

I agree, if u look back in history u will notice the underclass and poor were drafted in the war while the rich stayed home. Take the Civil War for example, the rich ppl were indeed drafted but they could hire substitutes instead, that way they didint have to fight. But yea poor are ****** every way.

thats not true. i know a lot of people who are inlisted, have been, or getting ready to go to iraq, and they aren't poor. maybe some who inlist do it because they dont have enough money to go to college, and they want to do somehting good in their life, but not all of them are like that.
