It seems that with the internet you don't need to buy the daily paper or newspapers. Can't say about books. I still buy an occassional newspaper or magazine. And I still read books. Will they disappear in a few decades because of internet? What do you think?

That's the line many young editors in newspapers and magazines are spouting today, however I don't believe it . There will always be a need for a newspaper, especially both online editions and paper ones.

As this generation ages , they won't always want to read at their laptop during breakfast, they'll want a paper to get coupons from, the read the advertisements, columnists etc.

It's the same way they said the record player would never come back and it has.

Everything old comes new again eventually.

To be perfectly honest though I love the Internet there is nothing like sitting down to read the newspaper or a book I find reading something on a computer strains and hurts my eyes has anyone else felt this? I don't think it will anytime soon before newspaper and magazines will disappear off newsagents selves because they still make money and people still prefer to hold a newspaper or magazine in their hands I know I do.

I sincerely hope not! I have loved books since even bofore I could read {when people read to me}. The joy of walking into a bookshop, looking at the vast array of titles, admiring the cover art, and finally picking one {or several!} to buy is something that would be greatly missed. On the bus in the morning is my current book reading time {that and in the bathroom!}, and I'm currently on my 6th Jasper Fforde book ~ mornings are so much fun! I also enjoy buying my daily newspaper, taking it home, and having to spread it out on the floor to read it {I never could get the hang of reading broadsheets the way people on trains do}. And the idea of no magazines?! I'm always finding beautiful pictures to cut out and add to my scrapbooks. If people in this world have any sense, we will never stop making these things. Of course, more sustainable alternatives may need to be found, but I'm sure we can manage that!

I think there will always be a need for newspapers and magazines. As far as books go,I can't see curling up with the Internet ,give me a good book anytime.

I don't think they will, since not everyone uses computers and the internet. I don't plan to get rid of my books and I still like magazines. I usually don't bother with newspapers, though.

And I do like the internet.

not for a while....but eventually. I'd prefer them to stay though. Its much easier on my eyes reading stuff on paper.
