I totally agree with "peach", the Excalibur is not a dump. >If you were taking your 4-10 YO kid(s) to LV then I would say the Excalibur is fine. For you and your Mom I would stay someplace more suitable.

Try this one
Bill's Gamblin Hall(ex Barbary Coast) >I hate their new name, but it's a very nice hotel in the perfect location.

This one is at the North end of the strip, but the Deuce bus stops right in front, which makes it convenient to either the strip or downtown. >You might like DT better
Stratosphere

They are running a special from June 3rd to July 31st(except July 3rd to the 7th) the rates are $39 Sun/Thur & $79 Fri/Sat

I know you said ON the strip, but I just wanted to let you know about this one. Everyone I take and everyone I recommend this hotel to loves it.
Orleans
http://www.orleanscasino.com
It's one mile West of the strip on Tropicana, but they have a free shuttle to the center of the strip, it runs about every 20 minutes from 9:30am to Midnight - They also have a shuttle that runs to the Gold Coast which is on Flamingo and next door to the Palms & Rio.
http://www.travelworm.com >has an awesome special going for the Orleans "IF" you're staying Sun/Thur $48 for the first night the second night is free. >

I will throw out a couple more, you can check them if they sound interesting.
Luxor

PC "PGET21"

Sam's Town >this one is on the Boulder Hwy, but has very nice shuttle busses to several locations on the strip and downtown.

If you want to save money this is a good site to check out.

We go to LV 2-3 times a year for 2 weeks or more at a time and have for over 20 years. Next trip, June 6h to July 5th. >We go on the cheap, and I enjoy helping others do the same< NO, I'm not a TA, just retired with too much time on my hands. I don't think Excalibur is bad, it's just cheezy because it's got the whole "medieval" theme going on. The rooms have been recently updated and the price is right if you're only staying there to sleep.

I absolutely LOVE the Flamingo, but if you're going over a weekend, Excalibur would be cheaper.

I've stayed at the Tropicana also and lots of people bad mouth it. I don't feel it's as bad as some make it out to be. For a clean room with a bed and a shower that works, it's perfect. I had a room on the 19th floor (upgraded) with a view of the strip for just over $400 - that's for 3 nights - over the weekend. It was the cheapest place to stay on the strip and I felt it was just fine. There were no bugs, no party animals, no issue with the cleaning ladies........ I have no complaints. Keep in mind it's not the Ritz, but then again neither is Excalibur or the Flamingo!

Bally's and Harrah's are also great choices and right in the middle of the strip. Clean rooms and nice looking hotels. The prices are right in line with the Flamingo. A bit more expensive than Excalibur or Trop, but better location and nice rooms.

If you're only staying 2 nights, it won't be that difficult to find something reasonably priced. Have fun!

Honestly, do an expedia or orbitz search and choose whatever you can afford. I love Vegas....1st time I was there, I bought a vacation home. There are so many great hotel/resorts on the strip....old and new....but like I said, if $ is the issue...pick the nicest you can afford. Remeber though...unless you are spending all your time at the hotel, then how nice it is really doesn;t matter....if u are just sleeping there, then clean sheets and a locked door will do :) Good Luck and have fun!!!

The ex is just fine it's close to everything and runs about 70-90 bucks a night. It's clean and safe the rooms are kind of small and are your basic holiday inn type room but it's where i always stay and it with in walking distance to most of the hot spots. What every you decide do not stay down town. The Sahara and Circus Circus are also cheap but kind of out of the way.

Excalibur is a complete dump. That explains the cheap rates. Your best bet is The Flamingo. It's centrally located on the strip, clean, and reasonably priced. Stay out of Excalibur.

definitely not excalibur. if you want a nice hotel on the strip i would recommend going to stay during the week because there rates are much cheaper. however, hotels.com is a great website because you see pictures of the rooms as well and get the rates for any day.

Go on expedia, and make a fake trip with hotel. They will provide you a list of all hotels and their ratings, and their rates.

The Ex is a dump and you won't have fun there. Full of older people and families looking for a cheap place to stay. Think Circus Circus but newer.

Try the Flamingo Hilton
