This maybe a stupid question and I apologize in advance for my ignorance. I have never voted in a presidential primary election before. I want to vote for Ron Paul in the primaries but I am registered democrat (Bush's fault, blame him). Can I still vote on the republican ballot in the primary if I am registered as a democrat or do I need to change my party affiliation?

It depends whether your state has open or closed primaries. If you live in a closed primary state, you must vote party. If that is the case, you can switch parties - just contact your local election board and see what you need to do in your area. Ultimately, in the General Election, you can vote for whomever you want.

Depends on the state but you will most likely have to be a registered Republican to vote in their primary.

Don't bother ,you can vote for anyone you want, no matter where you live. The majority of people who voted for Obama in the primaries were republicans who were voteing for him to stick the democrats with an unelectable candidate. If you keep asking people this question, they will make jokes about you being a typical Obama supprter

Generally, you must be affiliated with the party. This is to prevent sabotage. Republicans would come in to the Dems and elect richardson for being so conservative, and Dems would- Ok, so there are no liberal Republicans. Still, u get the point. It depends on the state.

You most likely have to change, and it's probably 60 days before the election.
