Hi

Try this link to the Mind website:

Paranoia
http://www.mind.org.uk/Information/Booklets/Understanding/Understanding+paranoia.htm

It's easy to read and understand.

The site is a very good source of information on all things to do with mental health.

I suggest having a look around to see what else can help you.

If you are seeking information on behalf of someone else, then I'm glad they have you around to support them.

If, however, this information is for yourself, but you are too worried to be honest, don't worry, there is good help available if you know where to look for it.

Mind also have local associations that can be easily accessed and can offer support and information to anyone who suffers, or anyone caring for someone who suffers.

This link will help you to find one close by - UK

Hope this helps.

Alissand gave a very good example of paranoia. I also met someone who believed the government was spying on him through his radio and television, so he tried not to leave it on long enough for them to get a fix on him. He asked me if I thought that as well and I told him I wasn't that important. A paranoid person believes other people are looking at him and watching him and may think that people wish to do him harm and are conspiring against him. Other paranoid people think that people look at them so that when they do something wrong they can laugh at them. Get the idea?

Real paranoia (not the kind we get from being on the Internet because that is common sense) is a neurosis whereby the person thinks everyone doesn't like them, is spying on them, talking about them, has it "in for them" etc. etc.

Psychotic paranoia is much worse and relates to insanity as they learned at Va. Tech a few weeks ago. He had many problems other than paranoia, but thinking people were "killing his children, and forcing him to kill people" was psychotic behavior that included paranoia.

Paranoia is an excessive anxiety or fear concerning one's own well-being which is considered irrational and excessive, perhaps to the point of being a psychosis. This typically includes persecutory beliefs concerning a likely threat.

I also read somewhere that sometimes the person thinks that they were chosen by god to do a special task.
