A physical feeling can trigger an emotion. But emotions are a mental thing.

Perhaps if the brain was dead enough to the point that it could not process emotions, you may not feel any. But that's pretty dang dead.

Emotional complexity is more a mental concept than a physical concept. Physically there are two basic emotions, basically labeled "Fight or Flight". Other emotions are based on other sensations or thoughts. There are people who have no emotions either because of problems in neural development or injuries to the brain or stroke. These things can cause damage to structures in out limbic system. Injuries to the amygdala, I believe, can cause a person to have immediate rage reactions or to be completely passive and sho no emotion at all, depending on where in the amygdala the damage occurs.

i heard that a particular serial killer was incapable of feeling emotion other than embarassment and anger...

since emotions are probably controlled by a particular part of the brain, its possible for people to not have them... and for some to have more intense emotion than others...

no. you must have feelings, even if its a feeling of rationality. or truth, trust, love, fun, boring, neutral. its all a feeling, we cant escape it because feelings are chemicals. its all in out body. to have more emotions you crank it up. smile lightly and you feel good. smile bigger and you feel better.
