when my washing machine spins the water from it backs up into the kitchen sink halfway and then it drains down

If the drain hose from your washing machine fits easily inside the drain pipe then the size is OK and you probably just have a grease build up in the line. Have it cleaned with a rooter machine or a jetter. If you plan on living there for a long time avoid using chemicals, I've made a lot of money replacing pipe under a slab because the bottom half of the pipe was gone due to chemicals being used over the years. A jetter will due a better job but will cost a little more.

We have the very same problem. The pipe drains from our sink and from our washer are small. So, we have to keep the lines as clear as possible to keep things draining smoothly. If we slack, we have water spilling over the drain in our utility room.

The plumber we use was coming over frequently to clear the line. He suggested Liquid Fire (a very dangerous chemical) to help keep the lines clear.

We also scrape our food scraps into the trash can. We don't use the garbage disposal unless necessary. Food particles just add to the problem.

Good luck with your problem.

because the drain line the washer is on is also shared by the same drain line the kitchen sink is on and the pipes are starting to clog up. The drain line needs to be snaked

I would guess that the vent on the drain line near the washer is plugged. The washer puts out a large volume of water in a short time and the vent is necessary to prevent backups.

all the above sound right... but first.... when the kitchen sink is backed up... try using a plunger on it.... you may be able to unclog it..if it is a clog and not a bad plumbing job... was it always like this?...or just start... new washer?....if it just started, its probably a clog.... if its always been like this, probably an undersized drain pipe or venting problem

Could be a poor plumbing job. The drains are too slow from a clog or something is improperly installed. Call RotoRooter or a like plumbing service to check for debris in the plumbing or other faults. Hopefully it's not something too serious to fix since it could be costly. Good luck to you!
