1. Sleeping Beauty--the wicked fairy originally wanted her to die, but one of the good fairies converted it to sleeping for 1,000 years (and in the original, she wasn't kissed, she was raped).
2. In Hansel and Gretel, the stepmother tries to get them lost in the woods so they can be eaten by wolves. They escape from the witch by throwing her into the oven and burning her alive, after she's tried to eat Hansel.
3. In Sleeping Beauty, she is poisoned by her stepmother.
4. In Little Red Riding Hood, the wolf eats the grandmother, and is in turn chopped up by the woodsman.
5. In The Red Shoes (Hans Christian Anderson), a little girl is forced to wear a pair of shoes that make her dance forever.
Many of the fairy tales, especially those by the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Anderson, are extremely violent--they've been toned down a lot for today's audiences. Originally, they weren't written for children--they were written for adults.

There are so many, it would be hard to name them all. So many cultures and groups have their own fairy tales, or folk stories, and most of them have violence. Snow Whites step mom whats her dead and her heart as proof, Hansel and Gretel push the witch that wants to cook them in the oven. The list goes on and on. Google fairy tales and see what you find.

1) Hansel and Gretel: Gretel pushed the Witch into the Oven.
2) Red Riding Hood: The Woodcutter killed the wolf and cut it open to save the Grandmother and Red Riding Hood.
3) Sleeping Beauty: The Prince fighting the witch and winning.
War and murder would be pretty violent, don't you think?

You do ask many of the extra exciting questions around right here. in all hazard as a representation, no longer of our skill for violence, yet of our fears. The violence is typically an instantaneous results of human misdeeds or random inexplicable acts of nature. besides the undeniable fact that, one nevertheless sees in conventional literature of on the instant a reliable flavor for violence. Stephen King has grossly outsold the bible. call of accountability is the main conventional video activity. absolutely everyone can tell you what "observed" is approximately. Many fewer human beings ought to tell you that "The workstation" isn't some mild-weight pc (or is it?). i contemplate whether that's an illustration of simplicity being the better instructor of morality training. The complicated plot is in basic terms extra difficult to comprehend and undergo in suggestions and thereby much less exciting to its meant audiences. human beings have been the mercy of nature in the time of the classic days. In modern-day days we are on the mercy of society. In earliest texts, our anxieties could ensue as violent acts of nature through human reasons. in the extra moderen literature and paintings, our anxieties ensue as guy harming adult adult males for no comprehensible (insanity) reason or (the timeless morality tale) wherein guy harms the guy who brings unwell upon each and every person by way of delinquent enactment of his very own rational self-activity.

Don't they all? Witches poisoning princesses all over the place...sleeping potions to make people think the young girl is dead...locking girls in towers their entire lives...I think ALL faery tales have not so hidden violence.
