The satire in the movie is making fun of teenagers in the 90's. For example, the language is ridiculous, yet they think they are brilliant. Watch the movie, and take notes! Teachers love referential material, just write about examples of satire from the movie.

It is a good satirical comic in that it takes the mickey out of all groups at school. You have the classic geek, the classical stupid blonde, the cool chick, the jock, the cool dude etc. It was one of the first to do it so bluntly.

In regards to the romance it shows that a person can be noticed by someone they like even if they have to change a bit as she did. It shows that a person does have good in them like when she helps out the teachers.

The movie pokes fun at popular culture in the late 80s, early 90s, exaggerating trends of the time and hyping up how materialistic we all were in 1995.

As for a classic love story? Cher looks for love in all the wrong places, and finally finds it in the one place she never thought of looking: her nerdy, un-cool, super serious step-brother Josh. They're able to move past their obvious "social" differences, and fall in love anyway.

The movie is basically a retelling of a Jane Austen story ("Emma", I think) if that's any help.
