Little Dot, and the Archie series

In the 1970s, I read House of Mystery, House of Secrets, The Unexpected, The Witching Hour, Weird War Tales - most of the creepy DC titles.

What a lot of people might not know is that the stories in these comics were classic morality tales. Victims of the various monsters, ghosts, etc. were NEVER wholly innocent and almost always did something immoral that invited the disaster they ultimately encountered.

It sounds kinda goofy, but a large part of my sense of right and wrong was developed by these comics.

I also read Mad for years and years. I learned a LOT about politics, satire, the excesses of commercialism, etc. from Mad magazine. Most of my friends didn't get a lot of the humor, but up until about 1978, Mad was brilliant.

I eventually graduated to underground comics like the Freak Brothers, Zap, Weirdo, Feds 'n' Heads, etc.

I can't believe all the people on here who mention "Archie." Archie was soooooooooo square. I think he grew up to become George W. Bush. For those who DO like Archie, may I recommend "Cherry," a raunchy underground comic from the early 80s which parodied "Archie." The central character, Cherry Poptart, was a sex-hungry young thing who got herself into all sorts of predicaments.

I used to like spiderman and batman comics but my FAVE were the X-Men. I used to read them during the 80s and 90s and they were the coolest and I miss their old costumes and personalities. I think the Uncanny XMen is the series I liked.

I used to read anything you put in front of me though but nowadays I dont have that kind of money I would need to buy comics every month now that Mommy doesnt do it anymore, lol.
