if you don't know the combination to a lock is there any way of retrieving it?

If it's a master lock padlock, here's how to figure out the combination in case you forgot it in about 5 minutes. I have sucessfully used this to retrieve a forgotten combo before:

What kind of lock? The Masterlock combination locks for example have a way to get the combinations easily.
