Go with silverpet on this one for she is right. Small silver coins from Britain as well as the United States ( dimes and half dimes) from after the Civil War here, to around the 1920's, were commonly used for a gift for ones sweetheart. They were enameled and put into broaches as well as ear rings. Some had the obverse or reverse removed and had the initials of the loved one put on it in fancy script. These are called love tokens today. Yes you do have a wonderful piece of history that is worth more than it's monetary value. As some one already said, you need to find the right buyer.

It's a 3 pence coin dated 1887 from Great Britain under the reign of Queen Victoria. It's not uncommon to find coins being used as jewellery items. Unfortunately the coin has been enamelled(the colors) and mounted in jewellery to be worth anything beyond its silver bullion value($0.55). Put the coin value aside, and we have a pretty nice pendant with its own sentimental value.

I suspect it may have been created for someone's third anniversary of something, either in 1887 or commemorating an 1884 event ... the jewelry, not the coin. :-)

As all antiques, value depends on who wants it and how much he or she wants it.

If it is a coin it is so damaged that it would have no value beyond its novelty.

Sorry.
