As a man gets older his testosterone levels drop. His testosterone is what keeps the androgens (female sex hormones) in check. Plus he could be old, lazy and/or fat but you got to take physiology into consideration.
Plus, skin loses its elasticity as it ages and a fat deposit can just stretch out easier.

After 40, a hormone called maternenone is produced by the male body. Testosterone usually wanes at this age and the maternonone flourishes , producing amazonian feeder cells which multiply unbridled in the absence of testosterone. By the time the sympathetic nervous system realizes what is happening, breasts are formed. The body recognizes this and Testosterone is once again produced, but breasts have already formed at this point and usually won't disappear without massive testosterone inspired activity performed by the body.

I am not familiar with breasts on males after 40 - I know adolescence can develop breast and sometimes they will require surgery. I understand that it is hormone related. Not joking - but after 40 - could that be just a man getting fat?

Why do little girls continue to develop breasts at a younger age at what seems like every year and dress like they're an adult and want to be looked at? And our society is wondering why more and more little girls get raped and malested every year...tisk tisk. Just take a gander at how they're dressing, and how their parents are letting them dress.
Men begin growing breasts after 40 years of age because the protein in their body is depreciating, which causes their pecs to start lactating.
Honestly, I have no clue. My dad is in his 50s and still has pecs.

testosterone levels drop, and the estrogen levels slightly raise. In addition, the male metabolism slows down, fat gets stored more easily, and visceral fat (in/on the abdomen) is the first place where a man stores his blubber. All of this means... man boobs! Aside from gynacomastia, a rare condition in men, in the which the already present breast tissue enlarges- this does not happen pretty often, though...

Growth hormone injections in poultry, beef, etc. Also, middle-aged men are getting fatter via poor nutritional habits. Where I live, most men my age are really fat and eat fast food and processed food.

Most womens sag down to the ground at that age, so we want to get competitive and see if we can keep ours above our waists.
