because they think that others dont like black people, or they themselves have self hate, and by saying they are "part cherokee" they are less black, and thus they think, better.

so far...two thumbs down, from the blacks who are mad that i hit a nerve

You said we are making you say nasty things. No one can make you say anything. OUT OF THE ABUNDANCE OF THE HEART MAN SPEAKS. So you are saying what is already in you!

It appears that you have an anger issue. Your question says why do MAJORITY, MAJORITY would be over 70% or even 51%. Do you know 51% of black people, and you have heard 50% of black people say this??? HMMM

You have a black close friend, yet you are sprewing hate towards black people. You need to take a deep hard look at yourself. The reality of it is everyone is mixed with something. No one is 100% anything, and you are saying that if people are mixed, they shouldn't look like that. Like what? There are white people that have features that typically wouldn't be in their race. So if a white woman has a big butt, is she mixed with black or hispanic? Genetically, white women don't have big booties. If a white person, has big lips, are they mixed? Genetically, you have thin lips. Genetically white women are flat chested with no butt, so if they have nice curvy "black bodies" are they mixed? If a white person has a wide nose, (I have seen many) Are they mixed? If a white man has a huge... Well, let's not go there. Does that mean he is mixed? Your question is unfounded, and cannot be supported. People didn't like blacks and still dont. But, that did not stop thousands of slaveowners from raping black women. You want to believe that blacks aren't liked or desired. You and I both know that is not true. WE probably all have a little white in us, since so many us your ancestors raped black woman. It seems you are jealous of black people, especially the women, because perhaps you are not that attractive or desired, then again maybe you are. You are not better than your friend, or any other person. Get over yourself. SO what if someone is mixed or not. How does it affect your life? I am a proud black man. My great grandmother is 100% CHEROKEE INDIAN. I have pics to prove. But I don't say I am .5 % cherokee. I am black. I descended from Blackness. Life begins and ends in black. When you are in your mother womb, it is black, when you close your eyes, and sleep you see black, and when you leave here.( Unless you see the light) You will see black.

I can't honestly answer your question, because I have no clue what goes on in any one's mind, only my own. If I were to guess though, I'd guess that some black people may actually be mixed w/ Indian/Spanish/etc, and then some black people just want to be "special"; they don't want to be JUST black, they want to be much MORE than black. Black and Indian and Dominican and Asian and...the more "ands" you have, the more special you are. At least, that's the vibe I've picked up from various people.

Personally, my parents didn't discuss/talk about ethnic heritage. Ever. I thank God for that too. Unless asked, I don't see why it would come up. I can only imagine why anyone would fraction themselves when making conversation. I'm 100% black, and when I talk to people, that is something that I don't feel necessary to broadcast.

I also think it may be a sign of the times. My mother was born in the early '60s, my father in the late '50s, so they grew up during the Black Panther-Black Power-I'm Black and I'm Proud, era. Nowadays, it's not like that. Not at all. Being mixed is "in". Generally, it seems like, the more mixed you are, the more coveted you are. By both the media and society.

That's my opinion, anyway....

This attitude is only an outcome of brainwashing that has been performed in America especially in slavery times. Blacks were taught that being Black is ugly, despicable, and dirty. The lighter you are the better you are. Of course this is so untrue. But over time the Black race has become conditioned to these thoughts and somewhat embarrassed to be 100 percent Black, when Indeed they should be quite proud of all their beautiful features and genetic make-up. Oh and by the way, there are lots of Blacks mixed with Native Indian blood. During the end of slavery, lots of Blacks lived and intermingled with the Native Indian because they were both considered outcasts, so you do have a numerous amount of Native Indians in the Black genealogy tree.

Im very offended by your question. I happen to be black and indian. I would feel no need to lie about it if i wasnt indian.
What business do you have accusing some one of lying about their ethnicity when you dont know anything about their heritage?I used to believe as a child that i was only black and indian. Then my grandmother told me that great grant mother was from Scotland. So no one else can ever tellme what I am and am not

Actually, some people are part Native American because freed slaves often maaried native Americans. It like saying that they are part white because women were raped back then and had birracial children. The fact that some says that they are part NAtive American is celebrating the rainbow they arethey are not trying to dimiss the blackness, the are celebrating the many cultures the are mixed with

As said previously practically all blacks in are America are mixed. Mixed does not necessarily mean 50/50. I am light skinned and mixed and I am not 50/50. I identify as black and most black people recognize me as being black. Other ethnicities almost always want to consider me anything but black. I call myself black as opposed to African American because to me AA implies that I have cultural ties to Africa, which I clearly do not have. I do not deny my African ancestry, I embrace it, but I am comfortable being black.

How do you know they're lying. Just because Oprah says that, doesn't mean its' true. People are probably mean to them or they have self-esteem issues. The ones that lie probably want to be mixed since a lot of other people are mixed.

There is truth in what she is saying. We all know that a lot of light skinned blacks exist because of the BED WARMERS that the slave masters would help themselves to. When slaves were freed many migrated north and many just started to wander and roam. Native Americans took many ex slaves into their families as one of their own(repressed by the anglo) and as equals they mixed with various Native tribes. Im 1/8 Arapaho myself and it has been verified through a test of my DNA. We are proud to be black and we also celebrate the diversity within us.

uhhhh....a lot of white people do this. I am a student at the University of Illinois, where we just got rid of the Illiniwek mascot. Before he got the boot, their were a LOT of whites who claimed to be "part-Indian" and said they had the right to want him to stay. However, none of these so-called Indians knew anything about Native culture. Also, most Black people I know DON'T do this and I suspect I know a few more Black people than you do.

Now I'mma have to agree with you except on the majoritiy part; saying you're black is much easier and better than all that fraction crap
