First here is how the physical connections should be:

-Cable from the wall to your broadband modem
-Ethernet cable from the broadband modem to the WAN (Internet) Port of the router
-Ethernet cable from the routers ethernet port #1 to the computers ethernet port

Now you turn on the modem, router and computer
Open a web browser window and type your routers IP address into the address bar. It should be something like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1.
This should get you to the routers configuration settings. You will need to now set up the router so it will log into your ISP.

You will need to select a Internet connection Type:
PPPOE for DSL
Dynamic IP for Cable

If you are picking PPPOE you will also need to input your ISP username and password.

Save the settings and reboot the modem and router. That should do it.

One last thing. Your install guide for the router should tell you all this and more, please refer to it.......

Have you reset your modem? You will need to power everything down. Bring up your modem first and wait for it to power up and send data. Next power your router on. This will take the new IP and subnet to all your devices accessing the router. Now turn your pc on and "presto" you will be cooking with butter.
