also what outlet do i plug my computer and monitor into the standard surge protected outlets or the transformer surge protected outlets? Thanks

All outlets are equally protected. As far as Dynex, they are manufactured by a leading company of surge protectors. Dynex is owned by Best Buy, and that's why it's cheaper, because it's a different "brand" but it works just as good as any other and has the same guarantee in case your equipment gets damaged.

No, expensive surge protectors are not necessary. I protect my laptop, desktop PC and other appliances in my home with surge protectors that I purchased at Home Depot for $12-$18. I have had the same surge protectors in place for about eight years and not once have I had a problem.
