Race would be one of the three distinct subspecies of Homo Sapiens: Caucasoid, Mongoloid & *******.
Caucasians, the white race, would consist of those from Europe, North Africa, the Middle East & Western Asia, regardless of skin tone. (Race is determined by craniofacial anthropometry, not skin color.)
Mongoloid would be those of East Asian ancestry, with the epicanthic eyefolds, such as the Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, etc. This category would also include the Amerindians, who originally came to the Americas from Eastern Asia (Siberia) across the Bering Land Bridge.
*******, the black race, refers to those of sub-Saharan African ancestry.
Ethnicity actually covers more ground and is more related to language, culture & nationality than race. For example, a person from Spain would be of the white race but their ethnicity would be, like their nationality, Spanish (or Hispanic, if you prefer.) A Spaniard could also be more specific with respect to ethnicity by identifying according to region, such as Andalusian, Aragonian, Castilian, Catalonian, Galician, etc. Then, of course, there are the Basques.

It is just another way to Balkanize, or divide people into ever-smaller groups for the purpose of hating or manipulating them.
Sorry.
