As long as it does not break any laws over equal rights?

I have owned a business, a Pizza Place, and I turned down people before becasue of how they where dressed (baggy clothes or showing too much), or how they acted (gangster style.

Business SHOULD have the right to refuse service if they wish too, in order to keep the apperence of a nice place.

What do you think?

I agree that business owners have the right to refuse service to people because of how they are dressed or whatever. After all it is their business. The down side to this is someone ALWAYS says it is a racial issue even when it is not

Hello. As for not allowing people in due to how their dressed, why would you refuse them if their clothes are baggy? Are you some fashion police? Now as for those who show too much, there's no problem there as are people and young ones who don't need to see it. If they act like they're hoodlums, then I'd refuse them too since you want your clientèle to feel comfortable and secure. I would submit however to you that the rule should be EGALITARIAN and in PLAIN VIEW for all potential customers to see. Having sufficient signage lets the incoming customers that it's not being done haphazardly but fairly.

It's a tricky question because you walk the line between equal rights and maintaining a nice atmosphere. I think it's fine for a business to have guidelines for dress, conduct, etc. The problem arises when owners start excluding people just because they don't like them or are prejudiced against them.

As long as your "criteria" for be served are posted, there should not be a problem.

For a food business, shirts and shoes should be mandated for health code reasons.

(Make sure that you and the employees have an upscale dress code to set the standard.)

Is your business and you can have a sign at the entrance with some rules about dress code. You did the right thing.
