The South had four main advantages:

1) home field advantage - the local population was willing to help them out
2) fighting for their homes and property and family - they had a greater incentive, unlike the Northern soldiers who were often, especially later in the war, unwilling draftees
3) better generals, especially Lee and Stonewall Jackson
4) Mostly fighting a defensive war - they didn't have to actually win to win, they just had to tie - if they kept the north out, the north might just give up. Also, the defense had an advantage in the style of fighting they used in the Civil War.

The CSA was fighting a defensive campaign, which genereally is easy to do. They had phenominal genereals like Lee, and
military personel like Stonewall Jackson. After those facts, they
were pretty much to a disadvantage.

They had much better leadership especially generals. And they had more spirit. It goes downhill from there. But save your confederate money because the South will .....
