I think it's better to correct them in a diplomatic way and I'll tell you why. If someone makes a spelling mistake and you notice it, chances are that person makes other spelling mistakes. I'm not counting typos on a computer. You can tell those pretty easily. Someday, though, that person is going to have to write something, say, for their boss, and won't it be really nice for that person when they misspell 3 or 4 words on a report for the boss. Those spell checkers aren't as perfect as everyone thinks. They won't let you know a lot of mistakes you made even though they are mistakes. You really need to know the correct usage of the words, there, their, and they're. And meat and meet. And patients and patience. And no and know. You get the idea. Bad grammar is a completely different topic.

No, not for a typo. But I do not answer questions with atrocious spelling, grammar and overall bad English. Why should I bother if you can't even care enough to at least use the spell check...
By the way, you should use a question mark at the end of a question. LOL

I don't ever point out misspellings. To do so is an automatic habit we all learned in school. People have learned to correct spelling and to attribute certain judgments toward people who have spelled something incorrectly. But, again, that's a learned habit. I've had teachers tell me that spelling poorly is definitely not an indicator of intelligence. Something spelled wrongly certainly does jump out and trigger something in our brains, though. Maybe it's because we were socialized to fear 'punishment' for misspelling things in school. Punishment might have been in the form of grades, red marks on papers etc. It's part of our unconscious now. There's almost a 'moral' aspect to it now. Is it obsessive compulsive? I don't know.

I can accept that people make typos and that some people don't have good spelling. I read right over their misspellings or typos and just answer the question.

I can relate to those people who do that. I am not the people who correct them, but it is annoying. Why can't people just be literate and intelligent and spell correctly. If one word is typed incorrectly, it is not as bad as when a message (like yours up top) is totally incorrect.

If there's only a couple of errors, I don't care, but if they type like how you just typed the title, I still answer the question, but suggest something like they get off this website to get an education. Well, I'm not that harsh but something along those lines.

LOL, I usually answer the question anyway, but will sometimes answer with the correct spelling or a reminder to use spell check after answering.

No, people make mistakes woop dee doo... what bothers me is when people actually type the way you did on your question (which I can see you did it on purpose so it doesn't bother me). When people type like that because it's "cool" or because they simply are lazy, I just ignore the question, and not answer it at all.. why bother insulting people when it will not get through their thick skulls?

Nope--I am one of the people that believes that if a person only wants to sit around fussing about other people's spelling they've got a superiority complex they need to address. And perhaps a little too much time on their hands. :)

No, I'm only rude to people who are mean. You seem nice though. I don't care about spelling that much. At least not enough to waste an answer telling people about it.
