America is it's own worst enemy when it comes to Wars like Vietnam and Iraq. While the US military might be able to defeat the enemy on the battlefield, the 'enemy' at home is much more resilient.
Really, what it comes down to is that the USA is, at heart, an isolationist country. It's been forced - almost continuously, since WWII - to involve itself in international politics, but, ultimately, the American people don't like the involvement, don't support politicians with rationale policies towards that involvement, and end up in bungled wars like Iraq, where there is no victory to be had, not because the enemy is strong or the military weak, but because the will to victory of American 'hawks' is consistently less effective than the will to defeat of it's 'doves.' Doves tap the isolationist tendencies of the American people, so no war can last long.
In the past, blatant attacks, like Pearl Harbor were enough to overcome these isolationist and defeatist tendencies. Today, as we are seeing, even the deaths of thousands of Americans on American soil at the hands of a dispicable enemy are not sufficient to drown out the siren call of isolationism.
I guess you can look at it as a defect in the political system: America's leaders cannot force thier people to fight protracted unpopular wars, so they cannot 'win' such wars.

America would lose to Russia ?!?! LOLZ I think Russia lost in Afghanistan first.
Vietnam was lost because we couldn't tell the good guys from the bad guys, and Iraq is a struggle cuz they just won't let us turn the Middle East into a glass parking lot.
Japan?? We nuked Japan just to see what the nukes were capable of. Haven't you heard the reason they chose Nagasaki and Hiroshima for the bombs and not Tokyo?? Let me explain it to ya. Nagasaki and Hiroshima had been relatively untouched by our bombing raids. Tokyo had already been leveled so we decided on those two cities so we could see what would happen in a full scale city. They were our test subjects.
Humiliation? In Americas short history we have kicked Britain's a.s.s. twice, then bailed them AND France out of 2 World Wars, *****-slapped Italy in WWII, and turned Japan into our own personal television/camera production country. Oh yeah, don't forget that we brought the Soviets to their knees. Sure we may run into a few minor skirmishes with some 3rd world **** holes from time to time but make no mistakes about it. America is still and always will be king of the Mountain.

This is not a nation of cowards! We can't win these kinds of wars without bombing to oblivion an entire nation. The wars we see today are made up of an unconventional style of fighting. We are bound by decency to fight with a conscience, our enemies fight like cowards, with $5 roadside bombs, and the insurgents suicide bomb anybody they can. I agree there are much better uses for that 99 billion.

Because its a lobbyist wars not the American people wars only a fool will lose his life to a lobbyist war. You are not patriotic and proud if you fight for small lobby so they could make money out of your blood. Free America from the lobbyists and then we all are proud and patriots.

Those wars are not meant to be won those war are meant to suck up money from the government (people) to give it to the military industrial complex. Is the format of an imperialistic economy. Those wars are planed to be long and with no resolution intentionally.

Only experts can give the proper answer. And I would say that soldiers are not ready to sacrifice while they know that their presence in the countries they fight in is based on some lies which their President told. Moreover, they know that their President (who's supposed to be their role model) will not send his children to war.

Russia are you joking? Russia couldn't hold its own it sold all its weapons to Afghanistan, Iraq, Cuba, Iran and so on and so on. Russia isn't what it use to be. Get your head out of the commie cloud. And as for WWII didn't Russia start out as an Allie to Germany then switch sides in mid war?

The US pulled out of Vietnam before the war was technically won or lost. The Iraq/Afghanistan War is not over yet.
Aside from those, the US has won or been on the winning side of every single major war in its history, starting first and formost with the Revolutionary War where we earned our independance from England. Better brush up on your American history before making a declaration like that.

eh... when the U.S. starting fighting wars with gorilla forces (forces native to the lands, that believe the U.S. has imperial intentions)... they started to lose... it's hard to "beat" gorilla forces...
we should know that best of all, since that's how we won our Independence against a better armed and trained enemy...
