If no one in the forest when the tree falls, anyone who lives near or even far from the forest can hear it because of the vibration of the sound when the tree fell and its because of the "echo". The sounds will echoe.

If a tree falls in a forest and there is no one there to hear it, does the forest even exist?

How do you know the tree has fallen?

This question, if taken in the proper philosophical light, is difficult to answer.

in order for sound to exist, it has to be received by something which is capable of interpreting sound, like the human ear. sound is nothing more than a wave of energy. so if a tree falls and no one is around to pick up that sound, then it can't possibly make any sound at all.

p.s. I believe the appropriate question is "Does it make a sound?" , not, "Can anyone hear it?"

No one can hear it if there's no one there. I think you butchered the question.

But, if you mean- "Does it make a noise?" It does. Just because something doesn't effect the life of others doesn't mean it won't effect the life of the one thing that is dying. (The tree)

Obviously, if no one is there, no one can hear it. But that doesn't mean it doesn't make a sound.
