My son just turned 4 months old. He has been sick for around 3 weeks. I have taken him to two different doctors and they say he is fine. He is really snotty and coughs alot. He coughs so much he chokes and throws up like a whole bottle. He does'nt have a fever or anything. He Does'nt want to eat at all! I have to trick him to eat and then he might cough a hour later and throw it all back up. The Doctors won't listen to me even though he has lost almost a pound in a week! The Dr. today said " well, he is still big for his age" I was like so what! He still lost like a pound! that can't be good right?!?!? Im desperate! Im so scared to sleep at night. He sleeps around 6-8 hours a night but has been really restless and coughs all night. Im afraid he will throw up so he has been sleeping in his swing and i've been on the couch so I can keep a eye on him. What should I do?

He has acid reflux and is on prilosec. This throwing up is different. Its violent throwing up. I also use saline drops and suction his nose many many times a day.

I just went thru this too but my doctor said it was a severe cold. She had the exact symptoms but she had her eyes really red. We was instructed to give her Tylenol childrens Cold and Allergy between the 1/4 and 1/2 mark on the dropper and she weights 15. It improved it within days. It is the nasal drip that is making them throw up. She is now back to normal and happy. She too is 4 months old, born 12/21. I have GREAT doctors.

I have a four month old too. He has been coughing and really snotty too for a little over a month now. He is not throwing up like yours is, but he does occasionally fever up. All of this gets worse at night, especially the coughing and snot. I went to the doctor today, she explained it is the worst allergy season ever. That is probably how it started. She told me not to worry and keep suctioning him out. On the other hand she did give me antibiotics............But, if I was in your situation. I would seek a third opinion. A baby not eating is never a good thing. I don't know much about losing weight, I don't think it would be good, but I have a little guy.

First of all your baby is super cute! I went through a similar situation to this when my third baby was 3 weeks old. The doctor told me that he was coughing so hard and gagging himself and throwing up because his runny nose drains into the back of his throat. Babies can't blow themselves so you will have to suction it out for him. If he will tolerate it try 1 drop of a children's saline nose drop solution in his nose. You will have to tilt his head back to get it in. (this may make him gag more but don't be alarmed- it should help him) Do one nostril at at time. After inserting the drop, suction it out with a bulb nasal suctioner for babies. (both the saline drops and the suctioner are available at the drug store) You may need someone to help you do this. I found an extra pair of hands helps with a wiggly baby. He may have a sore throat and that may be why he doesn't want to eat, he may be stuffed up too and that makes it hard to drink. Is his room too warm at night. If so it may be dry for him and this may be aggrevating the situation. Try a cool mist humidifier. They have ones just for babies. Are his ears really red? If so he may have a bit of an ear infection and this too may make things worse. But you would think the doctors would have noticed this. I know some doctors can be insensitive to new mothers at times. I know all about sleeping on the couch (or not at all!). I hope these things help you. I know that a runny nose and cough can last for months and hopefully the warmer summer weather will clear things up. If these things don't work and your little guy continues to lose weight make a pest out of yourself at the doctors. Sometimes you have to do this to make them take notice. Chances are, things will get better with time. Good luck!

First off, to maybe ease your mind a little at night, you may want to prop his mattress up to at least 30 degrees, that will not only help his acid reflux, but also may help keep his nasal passages clear.

Second, I would try going to a pediatric GI doctor, because coughing and nasal congestion are a sign of acid reflux (which you already know he has) so he may need more extensive tests than your pediatrician has the ability to do. Otherwise, I would call your pediatrician and be persistent that you know something is wrong and you demand he investigate it or refer you to a physician who CAN help you.

I had the same problem with all three of my daughters. It is scary. It could be ashmatic bronchitis, in which case you would need to give him breathing treatments daily with a nebulizer to help get the mucus out. in the meantime, buy a humidifier and an air purifier and keep them in his room. you need to go see another doctor. a pound is a whole hell of a lot of weight for a baby to lose in one week. i can hardly lose that much weight in one week! the good news is that they out grow it fairly quickly. (at least in my experience, and i've cared for 6 children with the same problem.) its very common, dont panic. get some nose drops and a humidifier and start looking for a new pediatrician.

For a fever, cough, and going for walks nostril? I could simply deliver them a few treatment and allow them to lay at the sofa looking television. There's no cause to visit the general practitioner for that except the fever would possibly not hamper. And medical professionals are not making condo calls in which I reside.

I agree with the reflux and allergy answers. You have to just keep bothering Dr.'s until they find the cause, keep calling around to different Doctors or take him to the ER next time it happens. Best of luck to you and your little one.

Go back to the doctor that has been seeing your baby since birth or find a new doctor and tell them that you are going to camp outside their door until they find something. If you know that something is wrong something is wrong. Another option is finding a children’s hospital and children’s ER, go there and tell them that there is something wrong and they have to help you out. Don’t leave until you get an answer that you are happy with.

it could be allergies...my son was coughing so bad that he too was throwing up and stuffy ....i was told to give him saline nose drops to help with the stuffy nose...they dont recommend over the counter meds to children under 1 yrs old....but if things are not improving go back and keep switching doctor if you have to...do what it takes for your child....i wish you the best!!

If the Dr.s won't listen to or address your concerns find another. Keep on until someone takes the time to help you & your infant. Your baby's health is nothing for them to brush off. Don't let them. He shouldn't have to be miserable every day & neither should you! Seek another opinion!!!

I really hope he gets better soon!
