The Sn would take some time to burn out, given that supernovae do not occur instantaneously. It is a process which takes millions of years for the remaining particles of gas to be exhausted.
Long before the Sun ever turns into a supernova, it would expand as more gas is spent on keeping the Sun burning, and would engulf the Inner planets, so that Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars would literally be turned into a wasteland.
By that time, all life on the Earth would cease to exist, as the heat given off by the dying Sun would evaporate oceans, strip the planet of the atmosphere we now have, and completely breakdown the electromagnetic fields of the Earth, causing a massive rise of radiation to cover the surface.

Yes, we would die pretty quickly. Some of us would be able to hang on despite the cold for a little while. But, without the Sun the cold and lack of ultraviolet radiation would kill everything. Without the Sun's gravitation pull we would fly off into space until we collided or something collided with us. And, if you mean go nova by "burn out" the heat and radiation alone from our Sun going nova would do us all in right then and there.

Assuming that the sun just went out, rather than expanding and the shrinking, it would be pretty dark here. The freezing would take some time due to residual heat. The earth is quite massive and in addition to holding considerable heat, it has a hot core.

It would actually take approximately 8 min for the news of a burnt out sun to reach the earth or more.(Depends on what side of the planet you were on) I still imagine it would cool off rather quickly unless global warming would slow it down.

Much like the moon, on the dark side it is deep freeze, so would be the earth with out the warmth of the sun.

The sun is a G type star, and will expand to a red giant star as years come by. Luckily for us we don't have to worry about that since its about 10 billion years until that happens.
