Who is a good contemporary actor to play the role of petruchio and actress to play the role of Katherine?

I'm not so sure about Paris HIlton, she seems too materialisatic. She also has a stagnant type of personality. But I love the Johnny Depp idea, thanks!

petruchio and katherine have a comically explosive relationship: the most famous pairing ever to play them were richard burton and elizabeth taylor (in the franco zefirelli film).
i can't think of any contemporary couples who are famous for the ferocity of their rows, but penelope cruz is very good at being angry in her films, and so is johnny depp.
they would be my first choice as individuals - but i'd need to screen test them to see if they worked together.

Years ago Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepherd did a version of this in their TV show "Moonlighting". It was hilarious and they were exceptional in the roles. Right now, I'm hard pressed to find two better actors, but perhaps Lauren Graham would make a good Katherine. Maybe Ricardo Antonio Chavira from "Desperate Housewives" would make a good Petruchio opposite her.

Interesting question. Petruchio is witty, funny, and determined (among other things). Maybe Johnny Depp? Kate is rude, stubborn, and arrogant (again, among other things). Maybe Paris Hilton? She's not much of an actress but she fits the bill quite well.

I think maybe Jack Nicholson for petruchio because he has the kind of personality that goes write along with the character, as for Katherine maybe Joan Kusak because she has shown her ability to be rude and then kind.

Kim Catrall could do this in her sleep and Russell Crowe would make a great balance for her.
Wait I just hit it. Kim Catrall tamed by JACK BLACK!!!!!!! as Petruchio!!
