wot do i need to consider when buying a new graphics card for compatibility, like i know i need to match it with the type of port, but will all motherboards take both ati and nvidia cards, and if i wated to use two (crossfire and sli) does this make any difference.

Any motherboard will run the appropriate graphics card, ATI or Nvidia. However, in SLI mode, it should be the same Nvidia model and in Crossfire mode, same ATI model.
Make life easier on yourself and cooler for your PC and power supply. Just buy the most powerful single card that you can afford.

Yes, you need to match the type of port your motherboard has. To know what ports has your motherboard simply open your cpu case and you'll see some ports to insert cards and other stuff. To knon what type is it is simple: PCI ports are white and AGP ports are brown. I recommend you to buy a 2 nVidia SLI graphic cards.

most graphica card producers are on the internet, go and update a patch or a driver, if that doesnt work, get a card the is meant for your computer.
