The particles in the interstellar medium consists of about 99% gas and 1% dust by mass. Between 100,000 particles per cubic Meter and 100 Million particles per cubic meter... so I'll leave it to you to figure out how much per Cubic Mile (not square mile :)) The closer you are to a star, the greater the density of the interstellar medium.

one square mile of space could have no dust on it. a square mile is an area without thickness. I believe you mean a cubic mile. The wikipedia article quoted above will give you an idea. i think i did the math right a cubic mile has 5 billion 451 million 776 thousand cubic yards which are smaller than cubic meters. cubic meters are the volume used in the article
